WCA Communications Coordinator The Winnipeg Construction Association would like to welcome Twila Driedger to the position of Communications Coordinator. Twila graduated from Red River College's Creative Communications program with a diploma in journalism and obtained her Mass Communications degree from the University of Winnipeg. Before joining WCA, Twila worked extensively in publishing, writing and editing magazines, developing promotional campaigns and coordinating communications and public relations. Twila will be managing the production of UPWORD, promoting Trade Up! Careers in Construction, creating the WCA Newsletter and managing the day-to-day communications activities at WCA.

Congratulations to Barry Brown, President, Maple Leaf Construction Ltd., who has been appointed as the first Canadian president of the Confederation of International Contractors' Association (CICA). Brown is the current chair of CCA’s International Business Committee. CCA participates in CICA activities through its membership with the Federation of United States and Canadian Contractors Associations (FUSCCA).
The mission of CICA is to serve, promote and enhance the image of the construction industry across the world. CICA is a non-profit, voluntary and global association of trade associations representing member construction firms from their respective regions. Other members of CICA include the Arab, Latin American, European and Asia/West Pacific construction industry federations. Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations Effective January 1, 2007, Transport Canada will implement new Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations. The regulations govern the maximum driving times and minimum off-duty times of commercial vehicle (bus and truck) drivers employed or otherwise engaged in extra-provincial transportation. These regulations require drivers to keep a record of their daily driving and other work activities in a prescribed format and to make these records available to designated enforcement officials upon request. Gold Seal announces new Construction Safety Coordinator designation Gold Seal Certified Construction Safety Coordinators work on the job site and are responsible for assisting management (and other company personnel) in the administration, development, implementation and monitoring of the safety, health and environment (HSE) program. Applications and Guidelines are available now from construction associations and construction safety associations. The first exam date for the Gold Seal Construction Coordinator will be April 13, 2007. Gold Seal accredits NAIT construction management program From the Daily Construction News, November 28, 2006: “In a national first, the Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) Gold Seal program has provided accreditation to the construction engineering technology (CET) program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).
