CCA New Documents Update

NEW CCA 90 - 2007: The newly published CCA 90 - 2007 'Guidelines for Electronic Procurement' can now be ordered through Winnipeg Construction Association.

NEW DOCUMENTS: The following new documents are expected to be published in early 2008:

  • CCDC 2 'Stipulated Price Contract'
  • CCDC 20 'A Guide to the Use of CCDC 2'
  • CCA 1 'Stipulated Price Subcontract'
  • CCA 61 'Risks of Pre-purchasing Equipment and Materials for Construction Projects'

Users who have purchased the 1994 edition of CCDC 2 will receive a free upgrade to the new 2008 edition. The CCDC has planned a structured release of the new CCDC 2, which will include an announcement and highlights of the document's improvements in different cities on January 29 & 30, 2008.

MOVE TO ELECTRONIC VERSIONS: Effective February 1, 2008, CCA will discontinue publishing hardcopy CCA/CCDC contract forms, and start selling contract forms ONLY in electronic version. Further details to be announced in the WCA Newsletter in early January.

PRICE INCREASE: The CCA Board of Directors has approved a substantial price increase to CCA/CCDC documents in order to support the on-going development of standard documents. This increase will be timed to match the move of CCA/CCDC contract forms to electronic version.

2008 Construction Industry Forecast

The construction industry in Canada is set to continue another year of strong growth, according to an economic forecast report released jointly by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) and the Construction Sector Council (CSC).

According to the forecast data, the overall construction industry in Canada will post a growth rate of 3.5 per cent by the end of 2007. For 2008, the forecast suggests the industry will grow by 3.1 per cent, with the non-residential sector growing by 7.9 per cent in 2007. In 2008, investment in non-residential is expected to grow by 5 per cent.

The data suggest that construction activity will begin to soften in 2009 and 2010. By 2009, the overall industry will grow by only 1.7 per cent, and for the first time in over a decade, industry growth will slow to 0.1 per cent in 2010. In 2009, non-residential construction will grow by 3.1 per cent, and by 2010 it will slow down to 0.5 per cent.

For more information, please contact Jeff Morrison (CCA) at (613) 236-9455 or Rosemary Sparks (CSC) at (613) 569-5552.

RRC Carpentry Sector Survey

In response to the skills shortages in the construction sector and the pressures placed on employers to maintain a viable workforce, Red River College is conducting a survey of Manitoba employers in the carpentry field to determine the feasibility of a 5-month Pre-employment Carpentry Program. Your response will be valuable in helping RRC plan to meet current and future skills shortages.
