WCA's Spring BBQ contained all the ingredients for a successful party: good food, entertaining music and a parking lot full of people. On June 13, approximately 350 people attended the association's annual event, which featured sounds of the Patrick Willoughby from Vida Insulation Inc. was the lucky door prize winner of a bar fridge, donated by Coast Wholesale Appliances Ltd. Thank you to the WCA Entertainment Committee, as well as WCA staff for their hard work.
Hours of Service Regulations - Update Please note that as a result of ongoing face to face and written discussions between CCA and federal/provincial Transport Ministries, all federal and provincial Transport Ministries have agreed to extend the "educational enforcement" period for construction drivers under the new Hours of Service regulations until December 31, 2007. What this means is that until December 31, construction drivers found in violation of the new Hours of Service regulations (which came into effect January 1, 2007) will only receive an "educational warning" - no charges will be laid. This so-called soft enforcement period is only being extended to drivers in the construction, oil and gas, and logging industries. The soft enforcement covers drivers that are considered to fall under both the federal and provincial regulations. In the meantime, a task force has been struck to identify concerns and problems with the new regulations for the construction sector, particularly the roadbuilding sector. CCA has already met with the Chair of this new task force, and will be working with him over the coming months to propose solutions to the issues / concerns that are being raised by CCA and other associations with the new regulations. CCA hopes to present a final series of recommended changes to federal and provincial transport officials by the fall. School Presentations - Share Your Experiences! As part of our Explore Your Future in Skilled Trades / Trade Up! Campaign, Winnipeg Construction Association is offering enticing and informative class presentations on Careers in Manitoba Construction. In a short 30-60 minute presentation we'll give junior high and/or high school students an overview of the various skilled trades and career opportunities in Manitoba construction and provide a list of post-secondary education and apprenticeship programs. We'd also like to have a young skilled tradesperson speak about their experiences in Manitoba's construction workforce. If you or one of your co-workers or employees would be willing to share your experiences and knowledge at an upcoming school presentation, please contact Twila Driedger, Communications Coordinator at 775-8664 x 2242 or tdriedger@wpgca.com. Your participation is appreciated! _________________________________________
