On April 12, 2007, Skills Manitoba is hosting a one day conference for young women in Grade 8 to learn about trade and technology careers available in today’s employment market. The conference will highlight different vocations in trades and technology, introduce young women to women mentors working in the trades or technology field and provide employment and career planning information. NEEDED: 30 women to be mentors as well as women who might be part of a panel discussion. To view the conference brochure, click HERE. To be a mentor, participate in the Young Women's Conference panel or to obtain more information, contact Maria Pacella-Augellone, Executive Director, Skills MB, at 927-0250 or skillsmb@mts.net. Provincial Trade Advisory Committee Membership The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Board invites your organization/association to submit a membership application for a Provincial Trade Advisory Committee (PTAC). PTACs are an integral part of the Apprenticeship system in Manitoba and are responsible for recommending to the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Board the practical and technical training standards for the trade(s) and for the development and/or update of trade regulation(s). Application packages for PTAC membership are available by calling the Apprenticeship Branch in Winnipeg at 945-3337. Applications will be accepted until Friday, March 16, 2007. Rotary Career Symposium: Volunteers Needed! The Winnipeg Construction Association is once again hosting a Trade Up! Careers in Manitoba Construction booth at the Rotary Career Symposium, an event designed to provide valuable information about various education and employment options available to students in Senior 1 through Senior 4. With Manitoba's construction climate at an all-time high, skilled tradespeople are in high demand. The need to reach students who are considering their career options has never been greater. Help us promote careers in Manitoba construction by volunteering for a two-hour shift at this year's symposium, April 11 & 12, 2007. To participate, contact Twila Driedger, Communications Coordinator, at tdriedger@wpgca.com or 775-8664 ext. 2242. Daylight Savings Time will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, which is one week later than usual. This results in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than in previous years. Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated. Click HERE for more information. Desjardins Financial Security offers a summary of provincial and federal legislation that applies to employee benefits. These documents have been prepared especially for those interested in setting up and financing employee benefit programs as well as those involved in compensation planning. WCA members who work in provinces outside of Manitoba will find the following summaries especially useful. Employee Benefits Legislation Summary available HERE.
