WCA Fall Golf Tournament

Southern Manitoba's picturesque Minnewasta Golf & Country Club played host to the WCA Fall Golf Tournament on September 11, for the second year in a row.

Located on the edge of the Pembina escarpment, just outside of Morden, MB, the course's natural rolling hills and meandering creek proved challenging for the 36 teams that came out to participate. Chilly weather conditions contributed to the course's tricky terrain.

Following the day on the fairways, golfers convened at Morden's Friendship Centre for dinner, drinks and a short prize presentation.

WCA would like to thank Assante Wealth Management for sponsoring the lunch, as well as the many hole and prize sponsors for their support. Thank you to the WCA Entertainment Committee and WCA staff for your help in making this annual event a success.

Information Session - Destination Canada 2007 Job Fairs

The Manitoba Immigration and Multiculturalism Division is pleased to invite you to an information session concerning the upcoming Destination Canada 2007 - Job Fairs in France and Belgium, November 20 - 26, 2007. The information session will be held at 12:30 pm on September 19, 2007 at the Norwood Hotel, 112 Marion Street, Winnipeg. It will feature a presentation from France's federal employment agency, Espace Emploi International (EEI), and provide information to Manitoba employers on how the agency can assist them to recruit skilled workers from Europe.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program is organizing this presentation to provide useful information to employers who wish to participate in the Destination Canada 2007 - Job Fairs this November. You will learn about the types of skilled workers who can be recruited at the Job Fairs and the services our partner agencies can provide to pre-screen these workers according to your requirements. The Destination Canada 2007 - Job Fairs are being organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Canada in France and will be held in three cities:

  1. Paris on November 20 and 21, 2007
  2. Lyon on November 23, 2007
  3. Brussels on November 26, 2007

Employers interested in participating in the Destination Canada 2007 - Job Fairs are encouraged to attend the free information session on September 19, 2007 and to consider having an authorized Human Resource representative attend the fairs in Europe. Our partner agencies in France and Belgium will advertise your positions and pre-select prospective qualified candidates, ensuring the interested applicants you meet closely match your job requirements, including English-language ability if necessary. The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program will support your recruitment efforts by providing a bilingual representative to participate in the fairs and by assisting employers to obtain Temporary Work Permits for the workers recruited. Employers will be responsible to pay their travel, accommodation and meals, while rental of space, furniture and equipment will be covered by the event organizers.

Please contact Karmel Chartrand at (204) 945-5711 or at employerdirect@gov.mb.ca to confirm your interest in attending the information session for employers on September 19, 2007 and your potential interest in participating in the Destination Canada 2007 - Job Fairs in November.

Province Launches TAXcess

Businesses now have improved and convenient access to their tax accounts with the launch of a new website called TAXcess, Finance Minister Greg Selinger announced during a news conference on September 10 at Winnipeg Construction Association.

Requested by construction industry business owners, TAXcess will allow businesses to:

  • Register for payroll tax or retail sales tax;
  • Apply for motive fuel tax, gasoline tax or tobacco tax licences;
  • File retail sales tax and payroll tax returns;
  • Pay retail sales, payroll, corporation capital, gasoline and motive fuel taxes through pre-authorized payment;
  • Update business and contact information; and
  • Review their account details including the status of their accounts.

As part of a pilot project over the summer, the newly-developed online service was tested by about 30 Manitoba small and medium-sized businesses and their feedback was used to fine-tune the new system before its launch.

For more information on TAXcess, call 204-945-5603 or toll-free in Manitoba 1-800-782-0318.

Sign up for TAXcess at http://www.gov.mb.ca/taxcess.
