WCA & CSAM Achieve COR Certification! The Winnipeg Construction Association in partnership with the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba is pleased to announce that they have achieved COR Certification! “We are extremely happy to announce that WCA / CSAM has completed its COR Certification audit, joining the elite group of COR Certified companies in Manitoba,” says Ron Hambley, Executive Vice-President of WCA. COR Certification is a nationally recognized safety program accreditation, verifying a company has implemented an effective safety and health program. According to CSAM Executive Director Sean Scott, WCA / CSAM is the first association in Manitoba to achieve this distinction. “Without question, we are proud to be among the safety and health leaders in our province and sincerely hope we are the first of many organizations to demonstrate they walk the talk,” adds Scott. New CIWA Integrated Wage Rate Booklets for both the Manitoba Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Construction Sector and Manitoba's Heavy Construction Sector are now available at the Winnipeg Construction Association. Just a reminder that the new Planning, Development, and Building Fees By-law No. 63/2008 came into effect on Thursday, May 1, 2008. The fee increase for 2008 was adopted by Council in conjunction with the City’s 2008-2010 operating budget. WCA has recently re-vamped the Trade Up: Careers in Manitoba Construction campaign to better appeal to youth and young adults in the province. We are currently ordering new exterior building/construction site Trade Up signs to replace the original signs. Please note: There is no charge for the sign as long as it is posted outside your office or worksite. Introduction to Quantity Take-Offs Two-day Course: June 9-10, 2008 Registration Deadline: June 2, 2008 Gold Seal Credit: Two Points (WCA) Location: Red River College This course is intended for individuals who are new to the estimating process, but have some knowledge of the organization of a set of construction drawings. You will learn to extract information from a set of commercial construction drawings in order to prepare a quantity take-off for some of the required materials. There will be numerous hands-on exercises using a variety of actual construction drawings. Also covered will be some common methods of organizing the data onto ledger sheets or Excel spreadsheets. Construction Law - Gold Seal Online Training Objectives: This course will provide managers with the tools to help them understand
construction contracts, write contracts, identify simple errors in construction contracts, This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) to five (5)
